Disney's Animal Kingdom Travel Guide
Animal Kingdom is part zoo, part theme park, and the most beautiful park Disney has. It opens early and the animals are most active in the morning, so this is a get-up-early park. It also has fewer rides than the others, which is why I plan it as a shorter day.

Where I'm sending people now
Animal Kingdom is only reachable by bus from Disney resorts or by car, since there's no monorail, boat or Skyliner. Animal Kingdom Lodge is the closest resort, and the drive or bus ride runs about 10 to 25 minutes from most others.
Go first thing in the morning when the safari animals are most active and the heat is lower. A shorter day here frees up an afternoon at the pool or a nap.
It's the cheapest park ticket, starting around $119 before tax. Multi Pass runs about $15 to $35 per person, and Flight of Passage is a separate Single Pass ($11 to $20), and on lighter days you can skip Multi Pass altogether.
As of November 2026, DinoLand U.S.A. is closed for good and walled off for Tropical Americas, which adds Encanto and Indiana Jones rides in 2027. Bluey's Wild World is open at Conservation Station, and Expedition Everest is expected to close for a long repair later on.

Disney's Animal Kingdom FAQ
Is DinoLand U.S.A. still open?
No. DinoLand, DINOSAUR and Restaurantosaurus closed for good in early 2026 to make room for Tropical Americas. That new area adds an Encanto ride and an Indiana Jones ride, both expected in 2027.
When should I do the safari?
First thing in the morning is my top choice, since the animals are most active before the heat. Late afternoon can also be good, but the last departures leave before the park closes.
Do I need Lightning Lane at Animal Kingdom?
On most days I'd buy the Flight of Passage Single Pass if it's a must and skip Multi Pass. With fewer rides and an early morning start, you can usually cover the rest on standby.
How long do I need at Animal Kingdom?
Most families are done in 6 to 8 hours. I plan it as an early start and early finish, then a pool afternoon or dinner somewhere else.
Is there a nighttime show at Animal Kingdom?
There are no fireworks, but Tree of Life Awakenings projections run on the tree after dark. Pandora is also beautiful at night when the plants glow.
