Lake Yellowstone Hotel
Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
The most elegant hotel in the park: a yellow colonial lakefront landmark, best for slow mornings and sunsets.
You want the most refined stay inside the park and a central base
You want to walk to the geysers or need in-room Wi-Fi
Yellowstone's oldest hotel, a pale yellow colonial-revival building on Yellowstone Lake with a Sun Room where a string quartet plays from mid-June to early August. Its 2027 season runs May 14 to October 10, and rooms have no TV, air conditioning or Wi-Fi.
I recommend it for couples and anyone who wants the nicest dinner in the park and a central base for Hayden Valley and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The trade-off: it's about an hour from Old Faithful, and the parking-lot-side rooms feel ordinary, so pay up for lakeside.
