A historic estate on 250 acres along the Webutuck River, where Emerson and Thoreau once visited, now a 38-room country hotel. The Manor House has the most character, the four new River Cottages look out over the meadow, and The Barns handles wellness with yoga, massage and infrared saunas.
I recommend it for couples and writers who want quiet, a fireplace and an excellent dinner without leaving the property. It's on the east side, well away from the Shawangunks, Kingston and Hudson, so skip it if you plan to tour the whole valley.
