The Best All-Inclusive Resorts by Destination (and How I Pick Them)

Turquoise Caribbean water and white sand beach

Most all-inclusive resorts look exactly the same online. Same infinity pool, same swim-up bar, same couple clinking glasses at sunset. The differences show up on day three, when you're eating at the buffet again or can't get a dinner reservation before 9:30.

I'm a travel advisor, and all-inclusives are one of the things clients ask me about most. So I run every one through the same five tests before I recommend it. This is the list of the best all-inclusive resorts that passed, organized by destination, with the honest "skip it if" for each one.

Quick note: I earn a commission from resorts when you book through me, not a fee from you. That's also how I can add perks like resort credits or upgrades when they're available.

Updated November 4, 2026. Resort details change often, so I re-check every one before I book it.

Quick Picks: The Best All-Inclusive Resorts at a Glance

Short on time? These are my top picks by travel style. The full breakdown for each one is below.

If you want...

Puerto Morelos, Mexico

No dinner reservations to juggle

Cap Cana, Dominican Republic

Los Cabos, Mexico

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Grace Bay, Turks & Caicos

No sargassum worries

Guanacaste, Costa Rica

How to Choose an All-Inclusive Resort: My 5-Point Test

  1. Count the sit-down restaurants. Buffets are fine for breakfast. For dinner, I want at least four or five à la carte restaurants, or a week starts to feel like the same meal.

  2. Find out how reservations work. Some resorts make you book dinners ahead, often in an app, and the good time slots go fast. That's not a deal breaker, but you want to know before you land.

  3. Check what's actually in the glass. "Open bar" can mean top-shelf brands or the cheapest bottle in the building. Look for named premium brands on the drink menu, and check whether they're only included at a club or upgraded room level.

  4. Compare rooms to pools. A resort with 1,000 rooms and three pools is going to feel crowded. Smaller usually means better service and an easier time getting a lounger.

  5. Read the 3-star reviews. Five-star reviews say "amazing." Three-star reviews tell you what actually bugged people: noise, wait times, timeshare pitches, a long walk to the beach.

Every resort below lists its numbers for each test, so you can compare them side by side.

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Cancun & the Riviera Maya

The Riviera Maya has more great all-inclusives than anywhere else on this list, and the most mediocre ones too. Know that sargassum is worst from roughly May through August, and hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Winter and early spring are the sweet spot.

This is the one I point people to when food is the priority. Eight sit-down restaurants, including Cocina de Autor, the fine-dining tasting menu everyone tries to book.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya all-inclusive resort, Mexico

  • Book it if you want genuinely great dining and big suites, with or without kids.

  • Skip it if you're on a budget or want a compact resort. It's three separate sections connected by shuttles.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: the Zen Grand section feels far from the beach, and you'll rely on golf carts.

  • Tip: book Cocina de Autor the day you check in.

Adults-only, six pools, eight à la carte restaurants, and premium drinks included. A really reliable couples pick.

Excellence Riviera Cancun adults-only all-inclusive resort

  • Book it if you're a couple who wants variety without paying Grand Velas prices.

  • Skip it if you want quiet. The entertainment program runs loud, and some base suites feel dated.

  • Tip: Lobster House and Chez Isabelle fill first, so book them at the front desk on day one.

On Maroma Beach, one of the prettiest stretches in the Riviera Maya, with nine restaurants and top-shelf drinks included.

  • Book it if the beach itself is the main event.

  • Skip it if you want to walk into a town. You're between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, not in either one.

The most interesting resort on this list. It's design-forward and includes access to the Xcaret parks.

Hotel Xcaret Arte all-inclusive resort, Playa del Carmen

  • Book it if you want the parks and tours built in, and a hotel that feels like Mexico.

  • Skip it if you want to swim from the beach. It's rocky, and the resort involves lots of walking, stairs and bridges.

A wellness all-inclusive with a mostly plant-based menu (fish and meat are available), four infinity pools, and only 314 suites.

Palmaia The House of AiA wellness all-inclusive, Riviera Maya

  • Book it if you want a calmer, healthier reset, with kids or without.

  • Skip it if you want a swim-up-bar party scene. This isn't that.

Also on my radar: Secrets Moxché (adults-only, 8 restaurants, only 2 need reservations), La Casa de la Playa and Impression Isla Mujeres for smaller, high-end stays.

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Los Cabos

Cabo is the answer for anyone worried about sargassum, because it's on the Pacific. The trade-off nobody mentions: many Cabo beaches aren't safe for swimming because of the currents, so you're really booking a pool-and-view resort. The Eastern Pacific hurricane season runs May 15 to November 30.

Adults-only, with butler service and top-shelf drinks. The buffet only shows up at breakfast, so every dinner is sit-down.

Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos amenities

  • Book it if you're a couple who wants to be taken care of.

  • Skip it if you want to swim in the ocean. The beach isn't swimmable.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: expect an upgrade or timeshare-style pitch at check-in. A polite "no thanks" works.

The luxury family pick, with all-suite rooms, six sit-down restaurants and a separate adults-only pool.

  • Book it if you're a family that wants a true luxury all-inclusive.

  • Skip it if you're watching the budget. Rates are high, and the spa costs extra.

My pick for people who hate planning dinners: none of the à la carte restaurants need a reservation, and premium drinks are included.

  • Book it if you want an easy, adults-only stay near San José del Cabo.

  • Skip it if you want lots of pools. There are two, and one is for Preferred Club guests only.

Big, busy and built for families, with a water park and an adults-only pool.

  • Book it if you've got kids who want to be entertained all day.

  • Skip it if you want intimate. Reviewers mention slow elevators, and about 30% of rooms don't have an ocean view.

Skip on my list: Riu Santa Fe. It has 1,190 rooms, constant party noise, and sit-down restaurants that are hard to book. It fails test 4 by a mile.

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Punta Cana & Cap Cana

Where you stay in Punta Cana matters as much as which resort you pick. Cap Cana's south-facing, reef-protected coves usually stay clearer of sargassum. The east-facing beaches in Bávaro and Uvero Alto get it heavily from roughly April to September. December through March is the cleanest window, and hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30.

The easy pick for couples: six sit-down restaurants, no dinner reservations, premium drinks, and Juanillo Beach in Cap Cana.

Secrets Cap Cana adults-only all-inclusive resort

  • Book it if you want variety without planning every night.

  • Skip it if you want nightlife or to walk anywhere. It's in a gated area, so taxis run $30+.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: people save beach loungers by 7am, and the lunch buffet gets repetitive.

The design-lover's all-inclusive, with an 80-meter infinity pool, a rooftop, and a food hall instead of a classic buffet.

W Punta Cana adults-only all-inclusive resort

  • Book it if you want a scene, good food and something that doesn't feel like a typical all-inclusive.

  • Skip it if you want quiet, or a short transfer. It's about 45 minutes from the airport, and the pool parties get loud.

  • Tip: download the Marriott app before you go. That's where you book Satsuma and Taman.

Adults-only with seven sit-down restaurants, and only the teppanyaki needs a reservation.

  • Book it if you like walking into dinner whenever you're hungry.

  • Skip it if you want calm water. This is the Atlantic side, and red-flag days are common.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: some rooms are showing their age.

The family pick, with a water park, a lazy river, and the same calmer Cap Cana beach as Secrets next door.

  • Book it if you've got kids and want a beach you can actually swim at.

  • Skip it if top-shelf drinks matter and you're not booking Club level.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: "ocean view" rooms can mean a sliver of ocean, so book ocean front if the view matters.

Not on the list: the St. Regis Cap Cana. It's a beautiful hotel but doesn't offer an all-inclusive plan.

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Jamaica

Jamaica is still rebuilding after Hurricane Melissa hit the west of the island in October 2025. Many resorts have reopened, some with brand-new rooms, but a few are still closed, so I check every resort's status before I quote it. Negril faces west and sees the least sargassum. Montego Bay and Ocho Rios get occasional light seaweed from May to October. November through April is the safest window, and I'd always add travel insurance for a Jamaica trip.

The Sandals with its own private offshore island. It's coming back from a full renovation, with stays bookable from December 18, 2026.

Sandals Royal Caribbean all-inclusive, Montego Bay, Jamaica

  • Book it if you want classic Sandals with a private-island twist, and you're traveling after it reopens.

  • Skip it if your trip is in December. I'd wait a few weeks after reopening for the kinks to get worked out.

  • What the 3-star reviews said (before the renovation): airport noise and a smaller beach.

The family pick, on Seven Mile Beach with the calmest water in Jamaica, a pirate-themed water park and premium drinks. It reopened in December 2025 with all-new rooms.

  • Book it if you're a family who wants an easy beach for little kids.

  • Skip it if you want an adults-only feel. It's lively.

A romantic, couples-only resort tucked into a cove in Ocho Rios, with champagne and premium spirits included.

  • Book it if you want a smaller, quieter couples resort.

  • Skip it if food variety is your priority. It only has three real restaurants, so it fails my test 1. The paths are steep, too.

The rule-breaker. It fails test 1 on purpose: 11 or so cottages on the Negril cliffs, one dining room, and private dinners in a sea cave. It stayed open through the hurricane recovery.

The Caves boutique all-inclusive on the Negril cliffs, Jamaica

  • Book it if you want a boutique honeymoon that feels nothing like a resort.

  • Skip it if you want a sandy beach. You swim off the cliffs by ladder.

Still closed at last check: Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Rose Hall. I'll update this once they're confirmed open.

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia is the honeymoon island, with the Pitons, rainforest and smaller resorts. Sargassum has traditionally hit the east and south coasts, but in 2025 it reached the west and north too, so check conditions close to your dates. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30.

On its own peninsula near Rodney Bay, with 12 restaurants, five pools and top-shelf drinks.

  • Book it if you're a couple who wants a lively, social resort with tons of choice.

  • Skip it if you want quiet. The main pool gets crowded and loud.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: lots of walking, and the beach cabanas cost extra. Entry-level rooms don't get butler or concierge help with dinner bookings.

The best value on the island, with a family side and an adults-only side and top-shelf drinks at every room level.

  • Book it if you want a family trip or a value couples trip between November and April.

  • Skip it if you're traveling in summer. It's on the Atlantic side, which is windy and gets sargassum from May to October. The Pitons are also 45–60 minutes away.

A wellness resort where a daily spa treatment is part of the rate. It's adults-only, with 155 rooms.

  • Book it if you want to come home feeling better than when you left.

  • Skip it if premium drinks matter. Only house brands are included.

Jade Mountain / Anse Chastanet

The bucket-list view: Jade Mountain's open-wall sanctuaries look straight at the Pitons. All-inclusive is an optional package here, not the default. It covers meals, most drinks, transfers, activities and a massage, with a 3-night minimum.

Jade Mountain sanctuary with Pitons view, Saint Lucia

  • Book it if this is your once-in-a-lifetime trip.

  • Skip it if you want resort-style pools and swim-up bars.

  • Booking caveat: unused package features aren't refunded.

Also offering optional all-inclusive plans: Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort (drinks are "selected" by the glass) and Cap Maison (49 rooms, 2 restaurants). Both are great hotels, but I'd book them for the hotel, not the meal plan.

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Turks & Caicos

Honest take: Turks & Caicos isn't really an all-inclusive destination. Most of its best hotels, Grace Bay Club and Rock House included, sell rooms on their own, and you eat around the island. But Grace Bay beach is calm, usually sargassum-free, and worth it. These are the resorts that genuinely sell all-inclusive. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30.

The biggest family all-inclusive in the Caribbean, with 20+ restaurants, 10 pools, a water park and premium drinks, all on Grace Bay.

  • Book it if you have kids of any age. It's built for them.

  • Skip it if you're a couple. With 750+ rooms, it fails my test 4.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: the cheapest rooms feel dated, and service is less personal unless you book a butler level.

Adults-only and active, with water sports and activities included, on Grace Bay.

  • Book it if you're a couple who wants Grace Bay on a budget and likes to stay busy.

  • Skip it if you expect luxury or lots of dining choice. Most meals are the buffet, so it fails test 1.

A mid-priced family option on Grace Bay. You can also use the restaurants at its sister resort, Blue Haven.

  • Book it if you're a family that wants Grace Bay without Beaches-level crowds.

  • Skip it if you want lots of restaurant choice. There are only two sit-down dinner spots on site.

The luxury option, with an optional all-inclusive plan built around Anacaona, its beachfront restaurant. It has separate adults-only and family sides.

Grace Bay Club, Turks and Caicos

  • Book it if you want a true luxury hotel on Grace Bay and the convenience of prepaid meals.

  • Skip it if you want variety. Honestly, I'd book this one room-only and eat around Grace Bay.

Not on the list: The Shore Club and Rock House. Both are favorites of mine, but neither sells a true all-inclusive plan.

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Aruba

Aruba sits outside the hurricane belt, which makes it one of the safest bets for a fall or early-winter all-inclusive. The catch: fewer true all-inclusives than Mexico or Punta Cana, and a few big-name Aruba hotels (the Ritz-Carlton, the Hyatt Regency) don't offer an all-inclusive plan at all.

The newest adults-only all-inclusive on the island (opened June 2025), on the quiet southeast coast near Baby Beach. Top-shelf spirits are included, and at 304 suites it's small by all-inclusive standards.

  • Book it if you want a quieter, newer, adults-only resort with a calm beach.

  • Skip it if you want Palm Beach restaurants and nightlife. You're about 40 minutes from the main strip.

Adults-only, right on Palm Beach, with four sit-down restaurants and a buffet. It's one of the better values on the island.

  • Book it if you want adults-only on Palm Beach without paying luxury prices.

  • Skip it if you care about top-shelf drinks. Pours are mid-range.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: the beach loungers go early, and the casino allows indoor smoking.

The family pick: a kids club for ages 4–12, four à la carte restaurants, and you can walk the Palm Beach strip.

  • Book it if you're traveling with kids and want to be in the middle of things.

  • Skip it if food is the main event. Reviews call it fine, not memorable.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: hard to find a beach spot at peak times, and some rooms face the parking lot.

Not a classic all-inclusive: the plan is optional, with a 4-night minimum, and everyone in the room has to be on it. Its signature is the private island (with the flamingos), reached by water taxi from the lobby.

Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba private island

  • Book it if you want a downtown Oranjestad base with an island beach day built in.

  • Skip it if you want to walk out of your room onto the sand.

Best All-Inclusive Resorts in Costa Rica (Guanacaste)

Guanacaste is on the Pacific, so sargassum isn't part of the conversation. The dry season runs December through April. September and October are the wettest months, and that's when I'd steer you elsewhere.

Small for an all-inclusive at 202 rooms, adults-only, and no dinner reservations to juggle.

  • Book it if you want a quiet, low-hassle couples trip.

  • Skip it if the beach is your priority. It isn't one of the area's best, and rates run high for Guanacaste.

The best beach of the bunch (Playa Conchal's crushed-shell sand) and the most restaurants, with eight sit-down options.

  • Book it if you want a great beach, golf, and real dining variety.

  • Skip it if you expect unlimited premium drinks. Premium-spirit cocktails need an upgraded bracelet.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: vendors along the beach path, and extra charges for things like lobster.

Remote in the best way, with kids' and teens' clubs, three pools, and premium drinks included.

  • Book it if you're a family that wants space and quiet.

  • Skip it if you hate long transfers. It's about 90 minutes from Liberia airport.

  • What the 3-star reviews say: the dinner buffet is forgettable, so plan on the sit-down restaurants.

The value pick, with four pools and a kids' club.

  • Book it if you want a budget-friendly all-inclusive with big pools.

  • Skip it if you want a boutique feel or to walk to town. There's little within walking distance.

Sargassum changes year to year and week to week. I check live conditions for every trip I book, and I'll tell you if I think you should switch beaches.

Booking caveat: many all-inclusive deals are non-refundable rates. If you're booking during hurricane season, I'd go with a refundable rate or add travel insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions About All-Inclusive Resorts

What makes an all-inclusive resort actually good?

Four or five sit-down restaurants (not just buffets), clear dinner reservation rules, named premium drinks, enough pools for the number of rooms, and 3-star reviews that don't all complain about the same thing.

Are all-inclusive resorts worth it?

They usually are for beach trips where you'll eat and drink on property most days, especially in Punta Cana, the Riviera Maya and Jamaica. They're less worth it somewhere like Turks & Caicos or Aruba, where the restaurants off property are part of the trip.

Which all-inclusive destinations don't get sargassum?

Los Cabos and Costa Rica's Guanacaste coast are on the Pacific, so the Caribbean sargassum doesn't reach them. Aruba, Grace Bay in Turks & Caicos, and Negril in Jamaica also tend to stay clearer.

What's the best all-inclusive for couples?

From this list, Excellence Riviera Cancun and Secrets Cap Cana for variety, Le Blanc Los Cabos for service, and Jade Mountain in Saint Lucia for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

What's the best all-inclusive for families?

Grand Velas Riviera Maya if food matters most, Beaches Turks & Caicos or Beaches Negril for kids' activities, and Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana for a swimmable beach.

Do all-inclusive resorts require dinner reservations?

Some do and some don't. Secrets Cap Cana, Secrets Puerto Los Cabos and Secrets Papagayo don't require them. Grand Velas, Barceló and Riu require them for most sit-down restaurants, and the good time slots go fast.

Is it cheaper to book an all-inclusive through a travel advisor?

You typically pay the same rate you'd find booking direct, and you don't pay me a fee. When a resort offers advisor perks, like resort credit or an upgrade when available, I can add them.
