Jackson Hole Travel Guide
Jackson Hole is the whole valley, not just the town, so pick your base on purpose: Jackson for restaurants and walkability, Teton Village for ski-in, ski-out and the tram. Grand Teton is 20 minutes from either, and early mornings are when the moose and the good light show up.

Where I'm sending people now
Jackson's Town Square for dining and walkability, Teton Village for skiing and the Four Seasons, about 25 minutes apart.
Mid-June to late September for hiking, floats and full park access; late January to March for the best snow. April to May and late October to November are quiet shoulder seasons when a lot closes.
Luxury hotels in town run about $450 to $1,200 a night, and the Four Seasons in Teton Village about $900 to $2,500+ in July and peak ski weeks, plus about 11% tax. Lift tickets are far cheaper bought online well ahead than at the window.
Teton Park Road is closed to cars from November 1 to April 30, though it's groomed for skiing and snowshoeing from mid-December. Death Canyon Road stays closed into 2027 and the new Moose roundabout is under construction in 2027, so expect delays at the park's south end.

Know before you go
Getting there
JAC is 15 minutes from Jackson and about 30 from Teton Village, with nonstops from Newark, Denver, Salt Lake City, Chicago and more in season. International visitors usually connect in Denver or Salt Lake City, or fly into Idaho Falls and drive about 2 hours over Teton Pass.
Getting around
Rent a car in summer so you can be in the park at sunrise. In winter the START bus and hotel shuttles connect Jackson and Teton Village, so I only add a car if you want to explore beyond the slopes.
Money and tipping
Grand Teton charges $35 per vehicle for seven days, separate from Yellowstone, and non-US residents 16 and older pay an extra $100 each. Late May, early June and late September bring the best hotel rates without giving up much.
How I'd spend 4 days
Day 1 Settle in, walk Town Square, dinner at Snake River Grill
Day 2 Sunrise wildlife safari, then the Jenny Lake shuttle boat and the hike to Inspiration Point
Day 3 Snake River scenic float in the morning, Aerial Tram to the summit in the afternoon
Day 4 Mormon Row and Schwabacher Landing at sunrise, then head north toward Yellowstone
Tip In winter, swap the float and Jenny Lake for the Elk Refuge sleigh ride and a ski day.

Jackson Hole FAQ
Should I stay in Jackson or Teton Village?
Stay in Teton Village for ski-in, ski-out and the Aerial Tram, and in Jackson for walkable restaurants, galleries and a quicker drive north into Grand Teton. They're about 25 minutes apart, and in summer I usually put clients in town.
Is Teton Park Road open in winter?
No. Teton Park Road is closed to cars from Taggart Lake Trailhead to Signal Mountain Lodge from November 1 to April 30, and the Moose-Wilson Road closes too. From mid-December the closed section is groomed for skiing, snowshoeing and walking, and US 89/191 stays open through the park to Flagg Ranch.
When does Jackson Hole ski season start?
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort opens for the 2026 to 2027 season on November 27, 2026, with the Aerial Tram serving the upper mountain. Ikon Pass and Mountain Collective holders need reservations, and lift tickets are much cheaper bought online in advance.
