Crosby Street is Firmdale's New York hotel, with 86 rooms and suites in Kit Kemp's bold, colorful style on a quiet cobblestone street in SoHo. The Crosby Bar does breakfast through supper with a shaded terrace, there's a sculpture garden in the courtyard, and guests get a Champagne hour from 5 to 6 pm in the Drawing Room.
I recommend it to couples and shoppers who want downtown restaurants and walkable evenings, at about $900 to $1,500 a night. The trade-off is getting uptown: the Met and Central Park are a 25 to 35 minute subway or cab ride, and there's no pool or spa.
