Magic Kingdom Travel Guide
Magic Kingdom is the park most people picture when they think Disney World, and it's the one I plan the most carefully because it's the busiest and the priciest. Get the strategy right here and the rest of the trip feels easy. Get it wrong and you'll spend half the day in lines.

Where I'm sending people now
The monorail runs from the Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian, and you can walk from the Contemporary. Everyone else takes a bus, or drives to the Transportation and Ticket Center and finishes by monorail or ferry, so budget 30 to 45 minutes.
Weekdays outside holiday weeks, and get there for Early Theme Park Entry so you knock out Fantasyland before the crowds. On Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party nights the park closes early to regular guests, so I use those days for rope drop and an early exit.
A 1-day ticket runs about $139 to $209 before tax depending on the date. Lightning Lane Multi Pass runs roughly $25 to $45 per person here, and TRON ($19 to $25) and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ($10 to $18) are sold separately as Single Passes, so a family of four can easily add $250+ a day.
As of November 2026, Tiana's Bayou Adventure is closed for refurbishment until December 18, Carousel of Progress is closed until 2027, and the railroad only runs between Main Street and Fantasyland while the Frontierland expansion is built. Jungle Cruise is running as the Jingle Cruise holiday overlay.

Magic Kingdom FAQ
Do I need Lightning Lane at Magic Kingdom?
On most days I recommend Multi Pass here more than at any other park, because this is where standby lines hurt the most. If budget is tight, I'd rather you skip it at Animal Kingdom or EPCOT and buy it here. Resort guests can book 7 days ahead, everyone else 3 days ahead.
Is Tiana's Bayou Adventure open?
Not right now. It closed November 2, 2026 for refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen December 18, 2026. Refurb dates can slip, so I check again before your trip.
What happens on Christmas party nights?
On Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party nights (select dates November 8 to December 22, 2026), the park closes early for regular guests. If you want a full day with fireworks, pick a non-party day or buy party tickets ($189 to $229 per person).
How many days do I need for Magic Kingdom?
One full day covers the headliners if you use Early Entry and Lightning Lane. With little kids or first-timers, I like two days so nobody is rushing and you can take a midday break at the hotel.
Which rides are best for small kids?
Peter Pan's Flight, "it's a small world," Buzz Lightyear and Haunted Mansion have no height requirement. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Big Thunder are both 38 inches, which makes them good first coasters.
